ABOUT

2013. Formerly known as Zizou Slab. Commissioned by Florian Bachleda at Fast Company. Available now from Commercial Type.

While Duplicate Sans was my attempt to draw Antique Olive from memory, the matching slab had no real historical precedent (I can't even imagine what the brilliant Roger Excoffon would have come up with had he decided to draw a slab serif.) I decided to start from the simplest place I could - snapping rectangular slabs onto the sans with a minimum of contrast - to see what that would yield before I tried to be any more clever with the design.

The straightforward approach seemed to work well, and my only indulgence was in adding a soft tail to the lowercase a. Duplicate Slab and Duplicate Sans have the same weight range, making them very easy to mix together. See some examples of the family in use in the Commercial Type news section.
